The One Painted Nail Cause

 Positive Pinkie

I am so happy to share with you the reason why I paint one nail different than the others. I have a beautiful talented daughter who is 17 and I started noticing a few summers ago that she was talking badly about her body. This really concerned me and I started reading all that I could on the matter. In our house fat is not a dirty word. It is a wonderful word that is always followed by the word beautiful. When my daughter was younger she knew that the two words were almost one. She would say something like "Look at that fat and beautiful bird mommy." But as we know looking in the mirror sometimes after watching T.V. or looking at a magazine can be frustrating.
I started showing her how the models in pictures are all mostly airbrushed. Dove.com did a wonderful segment on this for young women.
One day we were talking about how she thought she was fat and not beautiful I had this idea pop into my head about how to help both of us remember not to talk badly about our bodies. I would paint my little finger a different color as a reminder to both of us. That was in the summer of 2006 and I have been doing it ever since.
It has helped remind me how precious and powerful words are. Not long ago I noticed my chin multiplying and a groan came out of my mouth. My daughter was quick to grab my hand and held up my finger with a smile.
So join me and others and paint that one nail  Make a difference in your life and your childs.
