"So, you are an actor. Which restaurant?" 08/06/2010
As my friend Mary Kathryn and I say..."It is the hardest profession being an actor." You have to have a thick skin. You have to keep yourself positive when not working in a show or on a project. You have to keep busy! There's the physical....Yoga. Dance classes....(me and 6 8 year olds. Thank you Nancy for showing me a triple time-step.) Learning new music...(Next to Normal's ordered!) Eating right and NOT sitting on the couch watching TV all day. (I'm on season 8 of King of the Hill) Working a day job (waking up with pounding feet ) and not caring that everyone calls me Ma`am cause I am twice their age. That's not the hard part. The hard part is the mental part and keeping your spirits up. You have to go see shows... (which is hard when your choice is to pay the electric bill or go.) Seeing others in shows which is a wild mix of you going green with jealousy and being so proud of friends. Seeing your friend gets cast in film work and not complaining that your agency didn't send you out on it too!!!!! ( "That is SOOOOOO very awesome that you got that part in the Big Mamma's House movie.Wait. What that? It's 3 weeks of work in Miami at how much a day????") And being happy for everyone working. Telling yourself that there is enough work for everyone and your national commercial is right around the corner!!! DAMM THAT FLO ON THE PROGRESSIVE COMMERCIALS!!!! Breathe....breathe....there's something right around the corner. Stay positive. Keep busy! Not being envious because someone else has taken my role on this fall tour of MTM. All my friends are on it. They are going to some really cool places and they are doing a show where while on stage you are a rock star. The paycheck is nice too. sigh..... Be happy for the opportunities you had and will have! As my Life spring class taught me....I GET to take dance. I GET to go see shows. I GET to work on my voice. I GET to go and have a day job. I GET to be happy for all the work here in ATL. I GET to stay home and do what I love and raise my child. There is no substitute for that. Not even a Mama Mia Tour. CommentsMelinda 11/11/2011 16:55
